Discount Bar Stools For Summer Entertaining

by Jane Worthington

It's the fun time of year when we like to gather more often with our friends and family, and often outdoors. One problem we can run into is not having enough seating for our guests, resulting in bringing out some old rusty metal fold out chairs or lawn chairs. As inviting as these seats are, why not add some seating that will not only make your guests happy to sit down, but will upgrade the appearance of your home? There are many discount bar stools out there that look great but won't cost you an arm and a leg to put in your kitchen or on your patio. Just keep in mind that where you decide to place your additional seating, you should pick the materials for your bar stools accordingly.
If you are going to opt for kitchen barstools, then the choices are really limitless with the materials you can go for your seating. Because these bar stools will be inside and protected, you don't have to pick materials to weather the elements. However, you should keep in mind that just because you can pick every material doesn't mean that you should. You will want to pick a barstool style that reflects your personal taste and matches the décor in the rest of your house. Your bar stools should be a subtle and graceful upgrade, and not evoke a "what are these barstools doing in this kitchen?" reaction. If you have a country or rustic interior design in your kitchen, there are wooden barstools to coordinate with your home, or you can go with metal bar stools if you have a contemporary interior design theme that calls for this style.

If you would rather add outdoor bar stools to your patio or deck, then you can find discount bar stools to fit the climate conditions for outdoor furniture. You may want to steer away from metal bar stools, because unless they are stainless steel, they can rust and deteriorate, and not really last you as long as you had hoped. Wood is a good bet for your outdoor bar stools, as long as it is finished properly to withstand the weather conditions where you live. If properly treated, wooden bar stools can last for years and years, and it will help extend the life of your wooden outdoor stools if you put them in a shed or get covers for them for the snowy or wet months of the year.
Whatever material or style you choose for your outdoor bar stools or kitchen barstools, you can find great deals if you know where to look. If you hop online and do a search for discount bar stools, you may be amazed at the deals you can find compared to shopping around town. So go ahead and splurge on the extra seating for your kitchen or patio for your summer entertaining. Your house will soon be the best place to hang out on the block!

Wood File Cabinets - How To Select The Right One

by Leon Tuberman

File cabinets come in many sizes, styles and levels of quality. In addition to offering a way to organize and access your documents, file cabinets can also become flexible and useful pieces of furniture that can be used in almost any room of your home or office.
You can buy either metal or wood cabinets file. Wood, specifically solid oak, is the most attractive and durable material to look for. It will last a very long time and be an attractive addition to your home or office.
The many styles of solid wood file cabinets include Mission, Contemporary, and Traditional and come in several standard sizes, which include:
1. Letter sized file cabinets, which generally hold only 8.5" x 11" paper, but can also be used for 8.5" x 11" legal size files.
2. Legal size file cabinets, which generally hold both 8.5" x 14" and 8.5" x 11" paper.
3. Lateral file cabinets, which come with 2 or 3 drawers and generally hold 8.5 x 11" and 8.5" x 14" paper.
4. Personal file cabinets that are generally smaller and hold only 8.5 x 11" letter files
The letter or legal size file cabinet can be used the alternate way by moving the metal brackets.
Wood file cabinets are available with 2, 3, 4 or even 5 drawers. When deciding which one would work best for you, consider not only the amount of file storage needed, but also the other uses you have for the file cabinet as a piece of furniture. It could be used as an end table, a storage chest, a credenza, a DVD or video tape cabinet, a nightstand, or a place to keep your printer, fax machine, copier, or coffee machine.
If you want to place some of the above items desk height, a 2-drawer cabinet allows you a 30" high platform. If you line several up in a row you can have quite a large surface. A lateral file also offers you this advantage without a seam in the middle. For this purpose, look for file cabinets with flush sides so there won't be any gaps between the cabinets.

A 3-drawer file cabinet, which stands about 43" high, offers more storage per square foot of floor space and you can still put plants or other light items on top. A 4-drawer file cabinet, which is about 55" tall, offers a tremendous amount of storage, as does an even taller, but rare, 5-drawer file cabinet. We don't recommend putting anything other than a very light item on top.
SAFETY FIRST!
Any piece of furniture that is holding a lot of weight can be dangerous. An important safety issue with file cabinets is the danger of tipping and crushing. Large and heavy file drawers can cause the file to tip forward. Therefore, several things can be done to minimize this danger.
1. Do not fill the file on the top drawer while leaving lower drawers empty.
2. As mentioned above, do not open more than one drawer at a time.
3. Attach file cabinets to the wall to prevent tipping.
4. Where possible, put your heaviest items in bottom drawer (to act as an anchor).
5. Do not put attractive nuisances like TV's and games on top of tip prone furniture unless it is properly tethered. Children may climb up to retrieve the remote or turn on the TV with horrible consequences.
CHOOSE A HIGH-QUALITY WOOD FILE CABINET
The lowest quality wood file cabinets are generally made for self-assembly by the customer. This is usually more difficult than you expect and utilizes "cam" assembly hardware. You'll also want to stay away from file cabinets that are made of particleboard. Even though the tag might say it's made of wood, don't be fooled because that description might still be referring to particleboard, so beware. According to the Furniture Manufacturers Association, solid wood includes particleboard. What you really want to look for is SOLID wood-either solid oak, pine, or cherry.
Another thing to keep in mind is that in order to hold a lot of weight a file cabinet should have glue screws and clamps--not cam locks in particleboard.
Next, know the difference between printed grain, genuine wood veneer, and solid wood without particleboard. The easiest way to tell if a piece of furniture is made of solid wood is to look at how the grain is running. If the end grain runs the wrong direction (perpendicular to the other grain), it is most likely veneer. I'm not saying veneer doesn't have its place if properly done, however, you should not be misled and be able to purchase what you are looking for/know what you're looking at.
Wood drawers are best made with English Dovetailed joints. If a drawer is assembled with cams, it won't hold together. A drawer glued and stapled can be an acceptable assembly method if the staples are only holding the assembly together until the glue dries.
Another important element of a file cabinet is the hardware used to open the drawers. Check the runner system. Make sure it pulls out smoothly and evenly? How does the tracking system work? If the drawer pulls out less than 90%, you will loose storage space and it will be difficult to retrieve your documents from the back of the file. Euro type roller glides are unacceptable for any file cabinets. This type of roller system works with two interlocking wheels on a spindle and it can't take the heavy weight of a file drawer and will likely not last very long at all. The better glide system for file cabinets is a full ball bearing--full extension slide system with at least a 100 lb weight rating.
Also, consider whether or not you want to lock up your drawers. You can put a lock on each individual drawer. This is the easiest way to lock up any particular drawer from which you want to keep prying eyes. You can also lock up all the doors by using a key just on the top drawer and the mechanism will lock all the doors below. Interlocking systems on quality wood files can be a costly and sometimes can hang-up creating access problems.
The wise consumer will take all these pointers into consideration when selecting a wood file cabinet. If you stick to solid wood and good glides and stay away from self-assembly, you'll have good access to your files and your cabinet will last a very long time.

How To Build A Modern Bed D-I-Y Style

by Jron C. Magcale

Well with all the modern bed out there in the market, it's like it pushes you to do more. Give it an edge, like, why not build your own. So what are the things to consider when you want to build a modern bed yourself? The design, it is probably the most important thing to consider on the project. This is where you should spend a good deal of time. There are a lot of things that go into the design process, including, but not limited to: the space your bed goes into, your budget, your handyman skills, and green products or not. You get the point. This particular project shown above was for a good friend. The budget was around $300, the space was small, and I was fairly handy and had access to quite a few tools. It can get a little bit higher if you consider doing a better design on it.
You have to know and consider that the actual bed is two separate parts, the top, and the base. We'll start with the base. Try to make the skeleton out of cheap 1/2" plywood. It eventually got covered with the nice walnut as show in the picture above. The base was made out of 4 separate pieces that were bolted together. Try to maximize portability in case they ever moved and wanted to break it down into small parts. The main thing to consider is to be flexible and know the basis of the parts that you are doing, so that the idea on it will be good in terms of re-modeling it in the future or once you try to move the furniture out, it'll be rather easy to fix it up.

If you look closely the top didn't get the mitered 45 degree corners the base got. It was just a 90 degree but joint, which doesn't look quite as nice, but it makes putting the finished walnut on a lot easier. Then try to make it out of four different parts with the base which was then bolted together. Do this for the sake of portability in the future. The overall dimensions of the top are about 6" wider per side, and at the bottom to get the overhang I wanted. It sits flush at the top of the bed to save space in the room. The measurements however are important so you have to be knowledgeable on it as well. The portability of the bed should also be considered in this portion.
Next is probably the hardest part, using walnut ply cover everything that will be seen. This means using mitered edges where all the plywood joints meet. Try to use a tablesaw with the blade at a 45 degree angle, but you could use a circular saw with a straight edge clamped to the plywood. Take your time and think about everything three times before you cut. The spaces in the middle of the bed try to span it with multiple 1x4 pine slats. To finish it use water based minwax polyurethane. Put a coat on, sand with 600 grit sand papers, repeat x 3. On your last coat sand with 1200 grit sandpaper for the glassy finish. Then you're all done, Modern bed of your own design is finished. Let it be known that making one is not easy and sometimes expensive, but the thought of building it yourself gives you the satisfaction and pride that it is your own creation.

Kitchen Table And Chair Sets - You Need To Get One That Is Sturdy

by Jennifer Akre

What is the one place that you spend the majority of your time in, in your home besides the bedroom? Give up? It's the kitchen/dining area. So, for that reason you need to go with durable kitchen table and chair sets in that space, otherwise you will end up having to replace that set over and over again.
Why does the kitchen table and chair sets need to be durable for that space, well, it is because since you spend a lot of time in that space, that set ends up being used a lot. If you and your family is not eating breakfast, lunch, or dinner on it, then it is probably being used for doing homework, paying the bills, craft projects, or any other project that needs a large amount of space to get done.

So, you need to go with something that is durable and how do you know that? Well, the tell tale sign is what kind of material it is crafted out of. If you get one that is made out of something that you cannot even pronounce, then it's a good possibility that what you are buying is probably not of high quality and has a good chance of not lasting all too long, especially if you will be using it on a daily basis. Now, some of the better material options available include woods like maple, pine, cedar, and mahogany along with different engineered woods. There are some tables made out of glass, normally tempered, and metal, like wrought iron, steel, stainless, steel, and even tubular aluminum. If you have kids around, then the metal and glass option is probably not the best way to go since if it does break, that would be a little unsafe for them, plus, there would also be a huge mess to clean up.
What's also great about kitchen table and chair sets is not only does it provide you and everyone in your family with a nice practical spot to get things done, but it will also really add to the overall look of the space. For example, if you want your space to have a lovely antique look, then a great way to go is with is one that has an ornamental look to it with scrolling accents and details. Or, you could get one that is more on the traditional side and has a simple design. There are others that are more modern and some that even blend styles known as transitional options.
To see all the kitchen table and chair sets that you could possibly get for your living space, just hit the Internet for some online shopping. Really, it's the way to go because you don't even have to leave the comfort of your home to do it and what you purchase will be shipped right to your home. Shopping has never been so convenient.
In the end, you spend a lot of time in your kitchen/dining area so kitchen table and chair sets that are durable are one must have purchase. Without a solid one in place, you'll simply be out of luck.

Adirondack Chairs - Perfect Seating For Enjoying The Summer Weather

by Jennifer Akre

With the weather heating up, it's time to think about how you are going to enjoy it. Now, if you're looking at your outdoor space and see some rickety, old chairs, it's time that you upgrade and Adirondack chairs would be a good choice for doing just that.
Adirondack chairs are one of the most comfortable seating selections around and that is because of their design that has been around for over 100 years. This design was first invented by a man named Thomas Lee who was having trouble finding a comfortable place to sit during a vacation with his family back in the 1900's. So, frustrated, he decided to make his own chair and thus, created the Adirondack chair which has a sloping, spacious seat, slanted backrest, large, flat armrests, and a lower profile, meaning that it sits lower to the ground.
What's nice about Adirondack chairs is the fact that they would be a fantastic choice for adding to any outdoor area. For example, they are great for putting on a deck, creating a nice outdoor lounge area for you and a few of your friends. A porch is another spot that you could put one, ideal for taking in the sights and sounds of the neighborhood. In addition to those places, they would also be a nice addition to a patio, a garden, any balcony area, and you could even put on the end of a dock to nicely take in the view of the water.

When purchasing your Adirondack chairs, the main thing that you need to keep in the back of your brain is to get ones that are crafted out of higher quality materials. This is really important because you don't want them to break down under the elements only after a short period use. So, go with the high quality options and one of them is durable woods like Redwood, Northern White Cedar, and Teak along with manmade materials including thick recycled polymers and resin composites. Each can take a beating from the elements, plus, thanks to different finishing options, they all have a pleasant look that will definitely impress anyone who sees it.
If you think that Adirondack chairs are the outdoor furnishing for your, the best way to find just the right one is by not going to your local garden center or furniture store. Instead, save yourself a trip and just go online for some online shopping. You can breeze through what all the different stores have to offer in no time at all and when you do decide on something you like, you will be pleasantly surprised to see that it's at a pretty reasonable price. It will also be shipped right to your home so you don't have to worry about how you are going to get it from here to there.
With summer being just around the corner, it's time to get your outdoor living space for the season and Adirondack chairs are a great way to do that. Comfortable, pleasing to the eye, and durable, you would be hard pressed to find a nicer outdoor furnishing.

French Bedroom Furniture

by Ben Weissman

It's always interesting to follow the trends worldwide in fashion and design, but if you really want to know what the newest styles and ideas are, you should track the developments in Paris. The French are always fashion forward, and Paris is the fashion capital of the world, whether you are talking about clothes or furniture. To be in the know and ahead of the general public, you have to follow the market in France. One of the more popular trends in French bedroom furniture right now is to install a mini bar in the bedroom, complete with all the accessories and barstools.
In France, most people are laid back and unconcerned with many aspects of life, with the except of style and fashion. Being as hip and trendy as they are, the French are quite fond of contemporary bedroom furniture, which is less ornate than many of the more classic styles of old. In fact, there is little if any detail work directly applied to the furniture of choice, and all details are typically added through the décor and theme design in the room. In fact, this works out better for them because they can be fickle and change their style frequently with aspirations of instant gratification, one thing they do have in common with Americans.

This is important because it leads to the decision to use contemporary bar stools and counters for the bar they are going to build. After all, it would look a bit ridiculous to have a simple platform bed with no intricacies matched up with an ornate 18th century English bar. Instead, the French are quite careful to make sure their styles match from top to bottom of a room. If they are going for shabby sheik, every last detail is refined to give this impression, for example.
While you can find some ultramodern styles in metal, most French people prefer wood bar stools for their bar, as it looks more elegant, is sturdier, and often matches the rest of their bedroom décor better. Interestingly, it is often also cheaper, despite its superior quality to most of the metal products on the market. Of course, this is all based on personal taste, and even in France, many will look to be different from the crowd or seek out that perfect metal setup that is trustworthy and high quality design.
Perhaps making sure the home bar matches the master bedroom furniture is the number one concern of the Frenchmen as they built their little watering hole. Luckily, that's easy to do, since barstools come in pretty much all the same wood types as the beds and accessory furniture on the market. In fact, those who are especially excited about the mini bar will design the entire bedroom around this part of the room rather than vice versa. Watching the French advance in their designs can definitely provide tips and ideas for your own home that will be entirely fashion forward just like the fashion capital of the world!

Decorative Plant Stands Add Unique Character To Your Home

by Lee Dobbins

Plant stands are both decorative and versatile and they're not just for plants either! Actually, a nicely fashioned pedestal plant stand is ideal for displaying extra items when you've run out of room on your mantle or shelving.
The appeal of either a living or an artificial plant is enhanced by putting it on an attractive plant stand. Unlike live plants, silk ones will allow you to enjoy greenery without putting time into watering. An artificial plant should have a stand to add to its character.
No matter if you plan to put plants, pictures, or other items on your stand, you need to remember these cardinal rules when you set out to choose a stand. The stand should enhance whatever you are putting on it. The perfect plant stand for any type of plant is readily available, and makes it easier than ever for you to make a statement with not only your beautiful greenery, but also with your plant stands!
You also need to think about what the stand will be supporting. Consider the proportions of the plant in relation to the stand carefully as you want a good balance. You want to reconsider pairing a heavy, overpowering stand with a small, decorative plant. A fern, however, would look gorgeous on a pedestal like this.

You also have to think about color. Always consider the colors of the flowers of the plants you will be displaying. Complementary colors or neutral tones should be considered when purchasing a plant stand.
Size is also important. Make sure that your plant pot will fit on top of the stand. The top of the stand needs to be a little larger than your container. This will be more aesthetically pleasing as well as stable.
For plant stands to remain standing upright, all that is usually necessary is a solid and level floor. When displaying heavy or large items, you should take care to get a stand that can support the weight while still being appropriate for your flooring. As an example, a pedestal of light weight probably would not be the right thing if the floor has plush carpeting. If you have hardwood floors, however, this base will work just fine.
Show off your flare for style in your home by starting with the top of your plant stand. These little stands let you express your creative side in a big way.

Patio Cushions - Keep Them Clean With Ease

by Jennifer Akre

One unpleasant and unavoidable fact about patio furniture is that it is subject to the elements. It's fun and healthy to spend time outside, but it would certainly be better if the outdoors wasn't so darn full of dirt and weather. The less pleasant aspects of nature seem to wreak havoc on everyone's patio cushions. Before you know it, your cushions have gathered a plethora of stains and marks, as well as their own tiny ecosystem of flora! Thankfully, cleaning stains off of patio cushions is really very simple, once you know how.
How you clean them depends, partly, on what your particular cushions are made of. Most can be maintained and cleaned regularly with a mild mixture of warm water and liquid soap. For the smaller weaves; such as woven cushions, olefin, or marquesa blends; a mild laundry detergent and water can be used. Just spray your soap and water mixture onto the cushions and scrub with a damp sponge. The cushions can then be rinsed off with a garden hose.
For more stubborn stains and for cases of mildew growth, most patio cushions can be treated with a mixture of one cup bleach to a gallon of water. Be sure to check the care labels on your cushions before using bleach, but you will generally find it is safe to use without damaging the fabric or the color. If you no longer have the tags, spot test the bleach mixture on a small section of fabric. Polyester cushions may be faded or damaged by bleach, but others stand up well to this treatment. Spray the mix on with a household spray bottle and scrub lightly with a sponge or brush. Be sure to rinse the cushions thoroughly with clean water after using bleach or any other cleaning solution.

To avoid long term staining and to lengthen the life of your patio cushions, try to avoid getting suntan lotions and oils directly onto the fabric. When you go out to tan, take a towel and use it to cover and protect your cushions. The chemicals and oils in tanning products will shorten the life of your cushions and leave dark, oily stains over time. If you do get suntan lotion or tanning oil on your cushions, clean it quickly with a mix of warm water and mild soap or detergent to avoid letting it soak in. It will only take you a few seconds and will save you a lot of hard scrubbing later on.
To maintain the look and comfort of your cushions, try to give them a good soap and water rinse at least once a month and a thorough rinsing with the hose. During harsh weather and the colder months, when you won't be using your cushions and they are at the most risk for damage, bring your cushions inside or cover them up. You will be glad you did.
Just a little bit of care and maintenance and a touch of prevention are all it takes to assure that your patio cushions stay looking brand new for years to come. Just because your patio furniture is outdoors doesn't mean you have to let the outdoors get to it. Enjoy the comfort of your cushions without worry over unsightly stains or icky mildew.

Patio Furniture - Accessories For The Family Pet

by Jennifer Akre

There's nothing quite like enjoying a beautiful sunny day or starlit night from the comfort of your own back yard, but unlike our ancestors, we don't have to find a rock or tree stump to serve as an impromptu chair or table. Thanks to the proliferation of patio furniture, we can enjoy times like these with many of the same creature comforts that can be found inside the walls of our homes. Whether we're looking to lay back and soak up the sun or enjoy an al fresco lunch high above pesky insects, patio furniture is the perfect solution.
Most members of the family can make use of all of the conveniences that outdoor furniture has to offer, but there are some that are quite easily overlooked: the family pet. Wouldn't it be wonderful if we could share these creature comforts with the creatures that are near and dear to us? A wide selection of patio furniture for pets provides the perfect chance to give your dog or cat a treat that will last for years to come.
Outdoor furniture for pets may be purchased or created in many materials. If your main concern is durability and resistance to inclement weather, you may opt for PVC material. If you'd like a bit more of a rustic feel, you might decide to use wood instead. With its reported ability to naturally repel fleas, cedar pet patio furniture is a wonderful choice!

Outdoor furniture designed specifically for your pets will not only benefit your family pet, it will greatly increase your overall experience as well. Fido will enjoy his ability to grab a quick snack or drink of water from his elevated feeding dish without hyper-extending his neck. You will enjoy how nice it is to move freely about your patio without kicking over a water bowl or tripping in spilled dog food. And you both will be glad to notice that pesky ants are less likely to dine from your pet's bowl when it is in an elevated holder.
Whether you are man or man's best friend, it's hard to resist the nap-time lullaby of the warm sun and a gentle breeze on a nice summer's day. By supplying an outdoor furniture cushion for your pet, you can ensure that he is not sleeping on an uncomfortable hot surface or rolling around in the dirt. Your pet will be comfortable and you won't have to worry about him tracking dirt into the house after his nap.
And for all of the cat lovers, there is plenty of patio furniture for your favorite pet too. A few ideas include: hanging a small hammock in the corner for your cat to nap in, a scratching post covered in indoor/outdoor carpet, and a flower planter with fresh catnip to make him feel young again. Whether he decides to show his appreciate or keep it hidden, you can rest assured that your cat will enjoy the special outdoor furniture you've brought to the house to make the backyard a bit friendlier.

Buying Memory Foam Products For Relaxation

by Julie Simmons

Memory foam is a product that can have beneficial effects when used as a material for pillows, mattresses, beds, and other products that can be used for relaxation. This type of material can respond to body temperature, conforming to the parts of the body that need support.
It was originally designed for space travel, but due to the benefits that it has it soon expanded into the medical industry and eventually became available for domestic use. Visit any home furnishing store and you'll certainly discover how popular these products have become.
Memoryfoam mattresses are highly recommended if you want a comfortable and restful night's sleep. They aren't supposed to be firm, although if you prefer a firmer mattress then a memory foam mattress topper can be bought. You can expect to pay more for a mattress made from this material than a regular type, although they are certainly worth the investment. Brands such as Sealy, Silent Night, and Serta retail many top memory foam products.

When purchasing one of these products you should consider carefully if you are looking to save a bit of money. The low-cost memory foam products can often be low-quality also, so paying attention to any online reviews and ratings is recommended. There are plenty of memoryfoam mattress toppers, pads, pillows, cushions, beds, mattresses and so-on so you are certainly not limited for choice.
Memory foam is specifically designed to offer support and comfort to the user, and to offer pressure relief to areas of the body that needs it. There's no doubt that it does this very well, which is why it is such a popular material nowadays. It is especially useful for people with medical conditions such as arthritis, bone and joint conditions, and back pain.
Due to the sheer number of online retailers selling memory foam products you should take the time to compare offers before buying. Doing so will ensure that you purchase from a reputable retailer and buy a quality product at the best price.

The fame that is getting of modern outdoor furniture now has been well documented; it is believed that its success has been in sync with the home owner's undying interest in style, elegance, trend and progress. While the success of indoor modern furniture has been well-documented the modern outdoor furniture's success is also on the verge of being the next big thing in modern furniture line. Modern designs and styles are being incorporated to set the trend for the outdoor furniture such as tables, chairs and benches. It is rather compelling to see that there are quite a stir on its market side because the progress is being witnessed and the growing popularity of them to home owners have gain significant number and it is high.
Right now choosing the best outdoor furniture for your home is easier with the help of the internet, where you can surf the web, type in the keywords and lo and behold, different styles, designs, colors and products are there for your to chose from. You don't need big and heavy catalogues that eats up a lot of time when you try to browse; now you can just click and roll with it. I think the best ones are well made and the designs are unique it is hard to find some of the really "exquisite ones" but it's not impossible either. More to a thought of having to find and locate the best modern outdoor furniture that will fit your personality and lifestyle has now stake a different leap and it's easier. Back then you need to consult an expert for it, but right now it won't be necessary as you just have to be creative yourself.

No one knows your home better than you, so your judgement is significant and may take a big role on choosing the best fit for your home and style. I know that there are some cheap imitations that are running around, and I advise you to not trust it. For your convenience and satisfaction alike, please do not be fooled by the 2nd hand quality of it, rather be more careful and flexible on your budget so that the best available will be chosen by you because I believe that it will fit you and your home as well. It is rather a general belief that choosing the styles and the designs are very hard if you have many to choose from but if you have that fair judgement and your home and you are the same, you will know it by heart.
Please be informed that while the choices right now are unlimited and comes in big numbers be sure that what you choose is what you really want don't just choose because you like it in the first look and suddenly you change your mind and want to replace it after a few months or so, when choosing be strict and be sure. Add Class To Your Bedroom With Canopy Bed Frames

by Lee Dobbins

Ever since I was a child, I have adored canopy beds. Growing up, my parents had a great wrought iron bed that I still think of with great fondness. It wasn't a canopy bed frame originally, but it had enough height for a canopy to hang properly from it. When mom and dad went out, we liked to make a secret hideaway using sheets and blankets flung over the top of the bed. Under the covers as children we would pretend to be in a fort. Which is why ever since I have loved a nice canopy bed frame. The thing I love is how the canopy gives you an overwhelming feeling of being safe and warm, protected from all the bad things in the world around you.
You can have a canopy bed with all sorts of different bed frames. Although there are many wonderful styles to choose from, I personally prefer the wrought iron bed frames. I love the heavy look and strength. However, I have seen many quality wooden frames that have a very chic appearance. Wood frames are great because they weigh less, are more gentle to your floor, and are more forgiving when you run into them. A bed frame made of wood might be easier on your legs if you are prone to bumping into your bed when getting in or out.

While you browse local stores for canopy bed frames, consider the height of the canopy as well as overall aesthetic appeal. How tall your ceiling is, along with your own personal preferences, will largely determine the height of you bed. When it comes to a canopy, some people prefer it to be at its maximum height. Others enjoy sleeping in canopy beds sporting lower canopies, because it provides a greater degree of intimacy. When a canopy bed is too low, I really don't like it. When the canopy does not allow enough air inside the bed, it can become stifling. Some people actually like this though. Consider trying out as many beds as you'd like before making your final selection.
Antique canopy bed frames are as unique as you are, so look around for one you love. A quality bed that stands the test of time often stays in a family for generations. Many generations of a family can enjoy the same wrought iron bed frame or a wooden bed frame. Beds from different historical periods can be purchased at your local antique store.

Hammocks Can Make Your Summer Magnificent

by Jeff Swett

Ready to start relaxing in a serious summertime, Jimmy Buffett fashion? I'm not talking about Margarita's, although they would definitely add a little flavor to this whole summer thing. Rather, I'm talking about hammocks.
That's right...it's Hammock Time. Stop! Hammock time! Maybe that is more like MC Hammock and not Jimmy Buffett, but I digress.
If you truly want to get some relaxing enjoyment out of the summer, it is imperative that you get a hammock to nap, siesta, and enjoy the warmth of the sun.
Three of my favorites are brought to you by Sams Club or Wal-Mart (Don't judge me!-Wal-Mart's everywhere). Included among the plethora of hammocks are the hammock with stand (around $150) and the less expensive portable hammock (around $60).
Make sure you've got 10' of patio space for these puppies, string them up, and relax. It's as easy as that.
If you don't have 10' of patio space though, try the one person hammock chair or buy two for you and a friend. They are loads of fun and you'll feel like a 3-year-old-at-naptime-plus they are the cutest things since puppies.

One very important thing to remember if you are getting a hammock that must be attached to walls or railing though, you should double check with your apartment management to make sure that hammocks are allowed.
So get out there, start enjoying the sun in a hammock, and why not, add the margarita too!

Country Living With Wood Console Tables

by Ankur Kharbanda

The wooden console table often forms the centerpiece of 'country living' as I am sure that most of you would already know. Wooden furniture and similar furniture often form the backdrop of most of the country style houses. Plastic do not come into play at these settings. Wooden furniture is generally used to a large extent in most of the country houses as there is a need for furniture to be sturdy and one that does nto break at the slightest sign of pressure or stress. Take for example, the wooden console tale, as it is the console table would also at times form the function of the side tray and there are times when it would be required to carry a heavy load on it. One cannot expect a plastic table to carry the same load without buckling under due pressure. Which is why the wooden console table as well as other similar wooden furniture form the main backbone as far as 'country living' goes by.

The neat thing about wooden console tables is that one can get them with any engravings that one wants or just get them plain. In addition, such console tables, chairs and dining tables can all be color coordinated to the room according to the drapes and the color of the room. Of course, one can paint over the furniture, but it is always a good idea to keep the natural color of such furniture and you can vary between the light and the dark tones of the wood and use that for color co-ordination. The thing about the wooden furniture is that in spite of all the protection that one has to provide them to protect them from water damage and all that, they certainly bring this old world charm and none more so than the console table. Of all the furniture settings that one can adapt to most of the natural decors, the wooden console table is one of the best. It can literally adapt to any of the settings no matter what time period the room is made out in, be it Victorian theme or anything else.
Naturally where there is wood, there is always the danger of termites, but this can easily be handled with the right amount of protection. With wooden furniture especially console tables, it is always a good idea to use the varnish as the varnish literally can make the console table and other furniture glow with an inner light and in addition offer then the much needed protection from water damage. The wooden furniture and the console table performs the perfect setting to ones home and they often are the best furniture that one can choose if one wants ones room or ones house to be in a 'country living' style.

Finding the Right Bed for Your Size

by Leigh A. Matelas

In 1988, sleep expert Dr Chris Idzikowski discovered that trading in your old bed for a new, more comfortable one could give you an average of 42 minutes extra sleep -four times as effective as a typical over-the-counter sleep remedy. So if you're feeling cramped in your sleeping space, or you're tossing and turning on an uncomfortable mattress, one of the most important things you can do for your health is to invest in a new bed.
Choosing a bed for a tall person
According to the Sleep Council, most of us are sleeping in a bed that's too small. 75 % of double beds sold are still the standard size: 4' 6" x 6' 3" (135 x 190cm), yet men and women in the UK are getting taller. Each generation is on average 0.75 inches taller than the last, which means that within the next 50 years, the average man is likely to be 6 foot tall. The Sleep Council recommends that since we don't sleep with our heads right up against the head board, we should choose a bed that's at least 6in (15cm) taller than the tallest person sleeping in it. If you or your partner are above average height, even upgrading to a 5' x 6' 6" (150 x 200cm) king size could make a dramatic difference to your night's sleep while taking up very little extra space in your bedroom. And at 6' x 6' 6" (180 x 200cm), a super king size should give most tall people the extra length they need. If you're very tall, an alternative is to consider a custom made bed. While this will be more expensive, the advantage is that the bed can be designed to your exact specifications to suit you and your home.
Choosing a mattress for a heavy person
If you or your partner is heavy, a standard double bed probably won't be wide enough for you to sleep comfortably without disturbing each other. Like tall people, you'll benefit from a king- or super king-sized bed to give you that extra room. However, a further difficulty for heavier people is that when you sleep on a conventional innerspring, air, or foam mattress, your body weight pulls you down.

As the compressed air or springs push back, your skin and blood vessels are squeezed between the force of your weight and the upwards force of the mattress. This causes pressure points, which constrict circulation in areas like the shoulder blades, buttocks, head, heels, hips or elbows. Pressure points can result in numbness, stiffness and pain and lead to a restless and unsatisfying night's sleep. The heavier you are, the more likely this is to be a problem. An overweight person needs a firm and supportive mattress made of a higher density material such as memory foam to relieve pressure and ensure restful sleep. Memory foam, or visco-elastic foam, was originally developed by NASA to ease the pressure of extreme G-force on astronauts. A memory foam mattress moulds perfectly to the unique shape of your body, providing excellent support and reducing pressure points. A memory foam mattress can reduce your need to toss and turn during the night by up to 80 %, resulting in a much deeper, more restful sleep. It is also very durable and will continue to provide comfort and support for around 15 years.
Finding the perfect bed for you
When choosing a new bed or mattress, make sure both you and your partner visit the showroom together. Don't be afraid to try out a number of beds by lying on them to find the one that's most comfortable. It's worth investing time into finding the right bed, as a good night's sleep makes so much difference to your health and well-being. Remember that the level of firmness or softness that suits you best is a personal choice, so never let a salesman talk you into buying anything that doesn't feel right. Once you've got your ideal bed, make sure your bedding and bed linen fit perfectly too. If your covers are too large for your bed, they can easily slip and slide off. If they're too small, they won't cover you properly and you'll wake up cold. Most department stores carry a good range of bed linen sizes; however, you can also find specialist firms who will make custom-sized bed linen for you.

Sofa Tables - The Making of a Masterpiece

by Jennifer Akre

Sofa tables are regarded as prime necessity and are common pieces of accent furniture for all homes. But, the sofa tables we know today come from a long history of development.
Sofa tables began appearing around the seventeen hundreds, and like settees, they were known for their high features. Their popularity spread among all classes of people.
In many rooms at that time, sofas and sofa tables were paired with fireplaces. A fireplace was often considered the center and focus of a common room. Sometimes, they would be placed near the hearth or fireplace with chairs so those in the room could take advantage of the warmth of the fire.
For some time after this, sofa tables made a move, to the wall. They were pushed back, away from sight, between the wall and the back of the sofa. It was during this time that their design and style took a dip. No longer was it important for them to be icons of beauty, as no one would see them.
Then, thankfully for sofa tables, there was another shift. Nowadays, they are just as commonly located in the centre of the room or near the fireplace are they are up against a wall.
So just what are sofa tables?
They are loosely defined as any table near a sofa and were considered to a number of different tables. As we know, a sofa table is generally found at the back of the sofa these days. Modern ones serve more as a decorative piece, usually having a narrow and long appearance. They usually are available in various styles from contemporary to baroque.

The sofa tables which originated during the late seventeen and early eighteen hundreds were very much intentional. The upholstered sofa did not appear at that time as we can see today. The settee was the standard before that period, which would be paired with a sofa table.
As the Industrial Revolution began to pick up speed in the late eighteen century, weaving of fabrics changed dramatically. The fabric weaving quickly moved from a cottage industry to mass production. Eventually, the cost for fabric dropped and new uses for it grew. It was in this time when the settee was replaced by the fully upholstered couch, or sofa. This is when they became less important, and were pushed to the wall.
The best table, which epitomizes the early history of sofa tables, is the Pembroke table. The designs of various tables that are being used today had their genesis in the Pembroke style. The main characteristic of Pembroke table was a drop leaf section, which could be a single leaf or two. There are some other features too, for distinguishing Pembroke tables from other tables. The Pembroke tables usually have a drawer and often have two drawers. The tabletop of the Pembroke takes a rectangular shape with its leaves in down position. Many of those features have held through time and are those that are much coveted with this furnishing to this today.

Background For The Furniture

by Matthew Sorrow

Walls inside our homes are usually only a background for our furniture. But it doesn't have to be that way and in this season it shouldn't. This time modern houses are having flower, animal or plant ornaments on their walls that make a unique separate design on their own!
This season we observe having something left from the style in interior decor when popular were shiny furniture in geometric shapes and usually in intent colours. The trend might be similar but the range of equipment we can use to make our room sparkling are much more accessible and more wider. We can choose freely from many different paintings, wallpapers, or even types of plaster.
But being more specific: what is really in fashion this year in home decor? This season the designers are recommending dark colours for the walls as similar to the natural colours of the ground. For those who are very brave home owners there are options for having walls in very dark grey, brown or green. The colours of the ground might be break down by violet, crimnet, brick red.
The general rule is that we are not avoiding colours, specially intensive ones. Also those which might seem unusual to decor our walls as for example black. And the structure of the wall might also not be traditionally smooth. Nice looking would be the one with grooves or even little bumps. But all done with regular simplicity.

Cause even using those colours we can't mix them freely. We should rather decide on one particular colour and in this one have all our home accessories, gadgets, wallpapers, carpets. To break down the monochromatic dictatorship we can have one of our walls in different colour or wallpaper with big flower ornaments or flourishes ones. The ornaments should be big and visible but placed regular. The same emblem might be repeated on the carpets, mats, upholstery.
Most inspirations we are taking from the Orient. Mostly in colours and ornaments. Dark, black, grey, green and navy blue walls we complete with golden and silver stripes, flowers, and other shining elements. Smooth obscure in some way walls we are comparing with light or lighter elements. This makes a regular and original composition really modern.
So this year home decor is much about walls, dark wallpapers, and interior home accessories with floral ornaments. Those ornaments can be also shown in front of the house - not only as spring flowers in the garden but also as a spring door wreaths at your dark navy doors.

Indoor Benches - Perfect for Family Summer Gatherings

by Jennifer Akre

Summer time is a great time to plan family gatherings. It is fun to have those gatherings outside, however, sometimes you are forced to move the festivities inside. If the weather is too hot, or it starts raining, everyone will be looking for a safe place, indoors. If you live in the south, having a backup plan to summer activities is a must.
When moving a family gathering inside, seating can quickly become an issue. Sure, you can go out and rent some folding chairs but how good does that look? Instead, you may want to buy indoor benches. Benches are more practical than folding chairs and much more attractive.
In addition, having a few indoor benches will provide more seating than a few folding chairs. Depending on what type of benches you purchase, some can be stacked and put away when they are not needed.
Indoor benches come in many different styles, colors and sizes. If your indoor benches will always be a part of your home décor, you can choose indoor benches that are attractive, such as ones made of wicker and rattan. There are also wood and plastic indoor benches. If you are on a tight budget, you can buy plastic indoor benches and add a few accent pillows. While that may not seem like a lot right now, they will look as if you paid a fortune for them.

When it comes to locations, a screened porch or a sunroom make a great retreat for an outdoor gathering gone bad because of rain, heat or unwanted insects.
A storage bench is another way to increase the seating room for a family gathering. Not only do you get extra seats but you also have a place to store the things that are not in use at the moment.
Additionally, a futon or daybed can be used as a bench for that gathering as a place for people to sit. When the gathering is over and some of the family stays for the night they also provide a guest bed, giving them a place to sleep.
Another choice you have to make is whether you going to go out and buy indoor benches or if can you make them? You can go to a patio store or look on line and buy any of a number of indoor benches. If you like to have your hands a little more into things, you can go to a store and buy a kit that you have to assemble. Or, you can take it to the next level and do it all yourself from scratch. Then the outcome is only limited by your imagination. Paint it, stain it, or even put your own decorations on it. You are the only one that knows what you want so build it the way you want it and it will be the perfect bench for you.
Whether you want to spend a lot or a little, want a permanent fixture or to stack them and store them away, want to buy or build, or if you are looking for a specific color, rest assured your bench is out there.

The Beds Behind Those Bedtime Stories

by Leigh A. Matelas

Since sleep plays such an important role in our lives it's not surprising that beds feature prominently in many myths, fairy tales and other works of literature.
When we imagine the bed in a fairytale like Sleeping Beauty, we inevitably conjure up images of a huge palace chamber and an ornate mahogany four-poster bed draped with beautiful silken fabrics.
However, the characters in the ancient tales don't always sleep in a traditional bed, or even in a bedroom. Morpheus, the Greek god of sleep and dreams, slept in a bed made of ebony in his dimly lit Cave of Sleep. Forest elves make their leafy beds high in the treetops. And a vampire's resting place of choice is, of course, a coffin. It seems when it comes to beds and sleeping in stories, one size doesn't suit all...
Beds to fit everyone
If you've spent the night tossing and turning on an uncomfortable bed, you'll know how important it is to have a mattress of the right firmness. Goldilocks certainly appreciated this when she ventured into the house of the Three Bears. After tasting the porridge and sitting on all the chairs, she wandered upstairs to try out the beds. While Father Bear's bed was too hard and Mother Bear's bed too soft for her liking, Baby Bear's was just right and she was able to nod off straightaway.
Even more particular was the fairytale princess who endured a sleepless night because she could feel a pea underneath twenty mattresses and twenty layers of feather quilts. Her extreme sensitivity showed her to be of truly royal blood, and so she passed the Queen Mother's test and won the hand of the prince. They lived happily ever after, as usual, although you have to wonder how easy she was to share a bed with!

A more gruesome bed-related story can be found in the Greek myth of Procrustes. A sadistic bandit who lived in the hills near Athens, Procrustes would invite unwary travellers to lie down on his iron bed. If the traveller was too tall for the bed, Procrustes would chop his body until it was the right length. Victims who were too short would be stretched out on a rack.
The bed itself was adjustable and Procrustes would alter it as he saw people approaching to make sure it was never a perfect fit. Procrustes' evil deeds were finally stopped by the hero Theseus, who placed Procrustes on his own bed and cut off his head and feet. Today the expression 'a Procrustean bed' means an apparently arbitrary standard to which one is forced to conform.
Falling into an enchanted sleep is common in fairy tales and myths, but sometimes beds themselves can be transformed into magical objects. According to Arthurian legend, the wizard Merlin created an enchanted bed that drove everyone who slept in it out of his or her wits. Only the brave Sir Lancelot could resist the spell. More recently, in Disney's Bedknobs and Broomsticks, the children travel to London on a bed that can fly, thanks to a magic bedknob.
Sayings and superstitions about beds
Beds are the subject of a number of traditional sayings or expressions. 'A bed of roses,' for example, comes from Christopher Marlowe's 1599 poem, The Passionate Shepherd to his Love, in which he declares, 'And I will make thee beds of roses/And a thousand fragrant posies/A cap of flowers and a kirtle/Embroidered all with leaves of myrtle.' While Marlow had real roses in mind, the expression is used these days to refer to an unrealistic expectation of something being pleasant and easy, eg: 'Marriage isn't a bed of roses.' Saying 'he must have got out on the wrong side of bed' about someone who's been grumpy all day dates back to the ancient Romans, who believed that the left side was unlucky and that to get out on the left of your bed would bring you bad luck.
Other old superstitions suggest that it's bad luck to put a hat on a bed, that a bed facing north or south will bring you misfortune, and that interrupting bed-making results in a restless night's sleep. You should never place a bed with the bottom facing the door, since this symbolises the way you will be carried out (feet first) after your death. Finally, if you're single and you start making a bedspread or quilt, make sure you finish it, or according to folklore you'll never get to share your bed with anyone...

Learn How To Choose The Right Antique Furniture

by Constantine Balbozar

The condition of an antique will certainly affect its value. Always look for flaws; at least one or two. When an antique does not have any flaws it means it has been refurbished. Look for antiques that have aged naturally. If the furniture has been cared for then it should be worth more. Also keep in mind that original pieces contribute to raising its value. After you acquired your antique handle it with care. Keep in a clean environment and maintain it regularly. One you need to avoid is over cleaning your item because it will remove the natural chemical formations on its surface. These formations are what give it its distinctiveness. Owning antique furniture is like an investment. The value of the antique, however, depends on a number of factors that are associated with the piece of furniture itself. The era, the age, the quality, are just a few indicators of price.

Antique furniture can add style to your home. Incorporating distinctive antique furniture pieces in your house can add calls in your surroundings. There are of course, a few things you should keep in mind before you buy that wonderful piece of furniture. For a piece of furniture to be considered an antique it should be older than 100 years old. Some say 60 but most collectors would agree on 100. Anything less is considered a collectible item. Its value clearly depends on the particularities of the piece. Georgian period furniture, Regency furniture or Victorian and Edwardian pieces offer a distinctive style that can easily be incorporated in most modern design homes. For the experienced interior designer, when antique furniture is placed in scarcity throughout a home, they enhance the décor by reflecting the actual value of the antiques. Rare antiques have a higher value. The rarity of the antique is determined by how many similar pieces of the same antique furniture are available for purchase.

A Fresh New Look For Spring

by Chris Plumb

Conservatories are one of the most popular improvements homeowners can make to their properties. Not only do they add value, they also offer a pleasant, sunny space in which to work or play.
Yet, conservatories are often forgotten when it comes to interior design, with shabby, sun-damaged furnishings dulling what could be a cheerful, airy room. As the transitional space between home and garden, conservatory furniture faces much more wear and tear than in other rooms and is easily stained by mud or grass. And no matter how effective your blinds are, furnishings can quickly become faded or bleached by the sun. Conservatory furniture has to be hard wearing and functional to survive, but that doesn't mean you have to compromise on style.
This spring, why not breathe new life into your room with made to measure furniture covers that instantly transform the look of your space. There are many suppliers such as Plumbs, that can cover loose seat and back cushion covers are perfect for wicker and rattan furniture.
If you don't currently have rattan furniture then now is a good time buy as more and more natural fibers are making their way into our homes, in light of our desire to become more eco-friendly. It is best to choose natural surfaces and materials for our home furnishings, fabrics and finishes wherever possible. Not only do they look chic and trendy, but they wear brilliantly and have minimal environmental impact. Choosing natural products for our homes is not only imperative for the homes atheistic appeal, but also for our homes health.

You could even replace your iron coffee and end tables with natural rattan tables. This fabulous summer texture and earthy material will give an entirely new look and feel to the room. Remember, the very best rooms always employ a diverse use of textures.
Make sure you don't get carried away with the addition of rattan, you could leave your room feeling like a tiki tiki hut, which probably isn't the best idea. Adding rattan to your rooms brings the outdoors in - as our desire to blur the line between exterior and interior spaces continues.
Fresh floral cottons are massive this spring and are perfect for conservatories, as they emphasise the link between nature and the inside space. For a classic spring-time look, opt for pretty florals in pinks and blues and for a more contemporary feel, go for bold geometric prints on scatter cushions and accessories.
Make the most of your conservatory, so that you can get back to enjoying the long awaited spring sunshine.

How to Buy Factory-Direct Furniture to Save Money

by Ryan Page

Whether you're buying discount pieces of particle-board furniture or designer items from Europe, you're almost always going to save by shopping factory-direct. When you buy furniture right from the manufacturer, you cut out the retail markup costs and eliminate the expensive shipping fee of moving an item first to the middle man and then on to you.
To learn how to buy factory-direct furniture and save money, keep reading for 4 tips on how you can find great deals.
1. Get to North Carolina
It may sound expensive, especially if you live in California or Oregon, but for American-made, high-quality furniture at incredible, straight-from-the-factory prices, the place to be is North Carolina. The factories will ship any item to you for a fee if you live out of state and don't have a large vehicle, and items can be picked up for as much as 50-80 percent off.
The factory furniture outlet market in North Carolina, and particularly High Point, is so big and varied that there are actually multiple guide books on the subject, covering everything from the best outlets to hit to how to plan out a weekend of furniture shopping. If you're considering making a special trip, try checking one of these books out of your local library or picking one up at a book store.
2. For Bigger Discounts, Look Locally
While the brand names may not be as well-known, you can still find great deals locally, without making the trip to North Carolina. Look online for furniture manufacturers in your area. Google Maps lets you type in your address and search for businesses.
You can even look for Furniture Manufacturers as a business category and limit your search to those within 25 or 100 miles. Doing so makes it much easier to actually see and touch products you may opt to buy rather than being limited to purchases through a catalog or the Internet alone.

Additionally, if the manufacturer is indeed close to where you live, you can save a bundle on shipping charges if you have a sufficiently large hauling vehicle and can pick up the furniture yourself. You might even be able to rent a small truck or trailer for half a day, then pick up the items, deliver it to your home, and have the vehicle back to the renter in just a few hours.
3. Know the Difference Between Factory-Direct and Factory Outlets
Factory outlets, or furniture warehouse retailers, are still retailers who will be selling their products at a significant mark-up percentage. While you can still find great deals at these places, they're not actually factory-direct models.
Unless you're buying the piece of furniture right from the place where it's physically made and assembled, then you're not buying factory-direct. Retailers will tell you that since the product ships from the factory to you that you are buying factory-direct, but understand that you are still paying retail prices.
4. Try Custom-Made
Sometimes the best deal is to go straight to the craftsman and have a piece of furniture custom-made. Custom-built furniture often costs much less than most consumers expect. So, before you trek out to North Carolina for your next storage unit, try getting a quote from a local carpenter who may surprise you with both his creativity and low cost for materials and labor.

How Building Furniture Can Save You Money

by Ryan Page

With the right tools and skill set, you can enjoy a fulfilling hobby and save money by building your own furniture. Filling your home with pieces that you've built, refurbished, refinished or repaired yourself not only saves dollars, but it also fills you with satisfaction and pride. Keep reading to learn the basics on how to get started either making your own furniture or repairing the furniture that you have.
Start Small
Especially if you're new to woodworking or carpentry, you want to start small. Instead of learning as you go on a complicated dresser or armoire, maybe take a woodworking class that focuses on easier projects, such as a foot stool or a small table.
Once you have those foundation skills, you can then expand your tool inventory and your project scope.
Get Educated
Like the last tip suggested, educating yourself is going to make the difference between a poorly-made product and a masterpiece. If you don't have the time or the money for an evening carpentry class, check your local library or bookstore for books or DVDs that will help you tackle a particular project.
Build a Tool Library
Working with quality tools can mean the difference between a positive experience with a quality product and a bad experience with a poorly made product. While you shouldn't break the bank buying up every tool imaginable before you even start your first project, you should make sure you have the tools you need.
Because good tools are often expensive, most large-scale home hardware retailers offer tool or equipment rental programs. So, if you need a power sander or tile cutter, you can rent one for the day rather than shelling out a few hundred dollars on something you'll only use a few times.

Start With Refurbishing
Refurbishing or repairing older furniture can be a great way to start your furniture-building endeavors. Not only will you get an almost-new look on the item, but you'll also have a chance to look inside a piece of furniture, learn how it's made and put together, and gain a better understanding of the trade.
To find furniture pieces that you can fix up, try looking in your own house. From that old coffee table in the basement to that beat-up headboard that's sitting in the garage, you're likely to find something that could be sanded down, painted and refinished.
If you don't have any success at home, try checking your local thrift store, antique shops and flea markets for quality finds that just need a little loving care.
